OnDeck Reports First Quarter 2019 Financial Results (PR Newswire), Rated: AAA

OnDeck today announced first quarter 2019 net income of $5.9 million, Adjusted Net Income of $8.3 million and gross revenue of $110.2 million.

Net income was $5.9 million, or $0.07 per diluted share, and decreased from the prior quarter’s net income of $14.0 million, 0.18 per diluted share, primarily due to higher loan loss provision, higher operating expenses and an accrual for income taxes.  Net income significantly improved from a loss of $1.9 million, or $0.03 per diluted share, in the year-ago period reflecting higher interest income from asset growth.

Adjusted Net Income was $8.3 million, or $0.10 per diluted share, and decreased from $15.9 million, or $0.20 per diluted share, in the prior quarter and increased from $6.4 million, or $0.08 per diluted share, in the year-ago period, reflecting the  aforementioned drivers.

Loans grew 3% sequentially and 19% from a year ago to $1.2 billion. Originations were $636 million, down from $658 million in the fourth quarter and up 8% from $591 million in the year-ago quarter.  The annual growth was broad-based with increases from both domestic and international operations as well as in both term loan and line of credit offerings. The average term loan size was unchanged sequentially at $53 thousand and was down from $58 thousand a year ago. Unit volume decreased 5% sequentially and increased 15% from the year-ago quarter.

Gross revenue was $110.2 million, essentially unchanged from the prior quarter, and up 22% from the year-ago quarter driven by higher interest income. Loan Yield of 35.6% decreased from 36.6% in the prior quarter reflecting a decline in portfolio performance while pricing was generally stable, and was unchanged from the year-ago quarter.

Interest expense of $11.3 million was essentially unchanged sequentially and decreased from a year ago despite a higher debt balance as borrowing rates improved. The Cost of Funds Rate continued to improve to 5.4%, a 20 basis point sequential improvement and a 140 basis point improvement from the year-ago quarter, as we refinanced debt at lower costs. First quarter financing activity included the extension and upsizing of four debt facilities aggregating to $595 million with improved terms.

Net Interest Margin was 29.5%, down from 30.0% the prior quarter as lower asset yields more than offset the impact from improved borrowing costs.  The increase in Net Interest Margin from 27.8% in the year-ago quarter was driven by improved borrowing costs.

Provision for loan losses increased to $43.3 million and the Provision Rate increased to 6.8%. The 15+ Day Delinquency Ratio increased 120 basis points sequentially to 8.7%.  Approximately half of the increase was in loans 15-89 days delinquent reflecting credit testing and economic trends, and the balance was in loans 90-days or more delinquent reflecting the change in our collection strategy for late-stage delinquencies. The Net Charge-off Rate increased to 12.2% and remains near the low end of our 12%-14% target range. The Reserve Ratio increased 30 basis points sequentially and 50 basis points from a year ago to 12.5%, reflecting portfolio quality trends and a higher proportion of 90-day plus delinquent loans, which have higher reserves.

Operating expenses increased from the comparable periods to $48.3 million, reflecting growth in the business and investments in our strategic initiatives, primarily technology and analytics. The Efficiency Ratio was 43.8%, up from 41.1% the prior quarter but improved from 49.3% in the year-ago quarter, while our Adjusted Efficiency Ratio* of 41.0% increased from 39.4% in the prior quarter and 40.1% in the year-ago quarter.

Provision for income taxes was $1.7 million compared to zero in 2018 when taxable income was completely offset by operating loss carryforwards. The effective tax rate was 24% and reflected a 21% U.S. federal rate, local and state income taxes, and losses in international subsidiaries.

Total assets increased 5% sequentially and 18% from a year ago to $1.2 billion primarily reflecting loan growth. Cash and cash equivalents was unchanged from year end at $60 million and decreased from $70 million a year ago. Other assets and other liabilities increased over the comparable periods as we recorded a net $28 million right-of-use asset in other assets and an equivalent increase in other liabilities stemming from the adoption of a new lease accounting standard. The 3% sequential increase in debt to $842 million was consistent with the growth in loans.

Total OnDeck stockholders’ equity of $309 million increased $10 million, or 3%, from year end and $45 million, or 17%, from a year ago.  Book value per diluted common share outstanding of $3.89 increased from $3.77 at year end and $3.40 a year ago.

LendingClub to slash San Francisco office, move 350 jobs to Utah (Mercury News), Rated: AAA

LendingClub, the online-loan marketplace, plans to wind down customer support operations in its home city of San Francisco and shift staff to Utah as it seeks to trim costs.

In an internal memo to staff reviewed by Bloomberg, Chief Executive Officer Scott Sanborn said LendingClub aims to have its teams completely out of San Francisco by December.

About 350 jobs will shift to Lehi, Utah, where LendingClub recently opened a new office.

LendingTree Study Finds Tesla Drivers Have Highest Average Credit Scores (Yahoo! Finance), Rated: AAA

LendingTree today released its study ranking car brands by their buyers’ average credit score. Tesla buyers have the highest with a score of 740. Chrysler buyers have the lowest scores, with an average score of 656.

Key findings

  • Luxury brand buyers occupied the top spots. TeslaPorsche and Lexus lead with average credit scores of 740, 727 and 699 respectively.
  • Chrysler buyers had the lowest average credit score at 656, but it’s worth noting that this still falls in the “fair” range. It’s also right around the average credit score for all used car purchases.
  • For most auto makes, a credit score in the good range (670-739) was enough to be approved for an auto loan. Of the 30 different makes analyzed, 22 had an average approved credit score fall into that range

Understanding Sequential Pay Structures (DBRS), Rated: AAA

In a January 2019 newsletter, DBRS discussed the Evolution of the Shifting Interest Structure in residential mortgage-backed security (RMBS) transactions. Another common structure in RMBS transactions is the sequential pay structure.

The sequential pay structure is one of the most elementary and straight-forward structures in RMBS. Post-crisis, the sequential pay structure and its variations have been widely used in seasoned re-performing loan (RPL) and non-Qualified Mortgage (QM) transactions. Such structure largely benefits the senior classes in payment priorities over the subordinates.

Goldman Sachs, Regions help raise $ 55M for construction-lending fintech (American Banker), Rated: A

Built Technologies, a construction lending fintech platform, has raised $55 million in funding through Goldman Sachs and a handful of investors including Regions Financial, the company said Monday.

The Nashville, Tenn., company finished $31 million in series B funding through Goldman Sachs with the remainder amount raised by venture capitalists and Regions. The funding will help the 5-year-old fintech invest in research and development while building out its national client base, according to the firm’s CEO and co-founder, Chase Gilbert.

A busy month for fintech funding (American Banker), Rated: A

Novo, a challenger institution in the field of small-business banking, and the no-code platform provider Unqork held Series A funding rounds.

The online lender Upstart, which raised $50 million in a Series D round, says it can both lower loan loss rate and increase the number of customers underwritten.

Extend is building a platform to distribute digital cards by partnering with payment networks and card issuers. Another startup, MotoRefi, claims it can save consumers an average of $100 a month on vehicle refinancing by connecting them to trusted credit unions and community banks.

Moving Beyond Financial Literacy to Financial Empowerment (Lend Academy), Rated: A

Some of my thinking was prompted by this recent column in American Banker by Jennifer Tescher, the CEO of the Center for Financial Services Innovation (CFSI).

There are several companies in this space doing great work in creating high quality products: EvenPayActivTrueConnect and HoneyBee all offer options to employers that help their employees who need access to quick financing. Even has a groundbreaking deal with Walmart that has resulted in 300,000 employees using their pay advance app.

MoneyLion has four million users and they are focused on ending financial stress for all Americans by taking a holistic approach and being proactive in providing help. Dave helps the 30 million people who are hit by overdraft fees each year by advancing $75 from their next paycheck. Tally is a fully automated debt manager to help consumers get out of credit card debt.

Inside Varo Money’s three-year quest for a bank charter (American Banker), Rated: A

Just ask Colin Walsh, the co-founder and CEO of Varo Money, who began discussions with regulators three years ago to charter a national bank. Though the fintech won approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency last year to move forward, it is still waiting on an answer from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

Now you can pay for your flights in instalments with these booking companies (Lonely Planet), Rated: A

Online travel apps CheapOair and OneTravel will soon operate a new feature that allows customers to pay for their airfare in instalments. It means that customers don’t have to pay for the full cost of their flight upfront and can instead spread the cost out into more manageable payments that suit individual budgets, choosing between three-, six- or 12-month instalments. Fareportal, the company that operates CheapOair and OneTravel, said its partnering with online lender Affirm to introduce the new feature.

For example, a $300 (£230) purchase at 10% APR spread out over three months would cost $101.69 (£78) per month.

A recent study by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce revealed that Mississippi, Nebraska and Maine are the three states where small to medium businesses have grown the most year over year. This is according to sales in Amazon stores, specifically. More than half of the items sold in Amazon stores are from small to medium businesses.

HeZhong International Holding, which operates a peer-to-peer lending marketplace in China, announced terms for its US IPO on Wednesday.

The Shenzhen, China-based company plans to raise $5 million by offering 1.3 million shares at a price of $4. At $4, HeZhong International Holding would command a market value of $55 million.

Global fintech investment doubled in 2018 (HousingWire), Rated: AAA

Total global fintech investment increased from $50.8 billion in 2017 to a full $111.8 billion in 2018, according to KPMG’s The Pulse of Fintech, a biannual report that highlights key trends in fintech across the globe.

But the report showed something interesting when it comes to fintech – payments and lending continued to attract the most significant investment dollars globally.

China’s fintech funding dipped significantly in Q1 2019 (Business Insider), Rated: AAA

Global fintech funding was down 13% from $7.3 billion in Q4 2018 to $6.3 billion in Q1 2019, according to a new report from CB Insights.

China’s massive fintech industry took a beating in recent months as the government continued to wind down online lending nationwide, rattling investor confidence.

Funding for fintech startups shrank 87.6 percent year-over-year to $192.1 million during the first quarter of 2019, a new reportfrom data provider CB Insights shows. India, which recorded $285.6 million raised for fintech startups in the period, overtook China to be Asia’s top fundraising hub for financial technology. Both countries clocked in 29 fintech deals, suggesting a cooling investor sentiment in China which saw its height of 76 deals just three quarters ago.

Online Lender SoFi Sees $ 12M Loss In Q3 (PYMNTS) Rated: AAA

Online lender Social Finance (SoFi) continues to struggle, recording an adjusted loss of around $12 million during the third quarter before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. The FinTech company has now recorded losses for the second consecutive quarter. In August, it posted a second quarter loss of about $200 million.

According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the earnings losses follow an adjusted profit of $56 million in Q3 of 2017. Loan volume has fallen for two straight quarters under Anthony Noto, who took over as CEO in March. In fact, the company revealed in an investor letter that it had extended around $2.5 billion in refinanced student, unsecured consumer and mortgage loans in the third quarter, falling nearly 30 percent from the same period a year ago.

RealtyShares Is the Latest Casualty of Real Estate Finance Disrupters (Propmondo) Rated: AAA

One of these companies was ReatlyShares. Started in 2013 they raised $58 million from leading venture capital firms and started connecting investors with projects with as little as a $1,000 investment minimum. Five years later the company is announcing that they are laying off most of their employees and are no longer seeking new deals. The exact reason for the demise is still uncertain but a few factors could have contributed.

FinTech Earnings Recap (Peer IQ) Rated: AAA

We analyze the earnings of Enova (ENVA), GreenSky (GSKY), LendingClub (LC), OneMain (OMF) and OnDeck (ODK). All lenders delivered high-double digit revenue growth YoY. ENVA’s revenues grew 35% YoY, and GSKY’s revenue grew 29% YoY, albeit from a low base. Originations also grew by double digits YoY, with originations at GSKY growing by 33% YoY.

Lenders have raised their borrowing rates, although well below the rate of Fed Rate increases leading to margin compression. In the last 12 months, LendingClub, for instance, has raised interest rates across the credit spectrum by between 49 bps and 114 bps, while the Fed has raised short-end rates by 100 bps. The flattening yield curve is raising the cost of borrowing on lenders’ credit facilities which are benchmarked to short-term interest rates. Overall, lenders and investors are experiencing margin compression. By contrast, large banks continue to issue deposits at ultra-low rates (< 6 bps for large money center banks) and have benefitted from rising rates.

Stock price performance post earnings has been good in a relatively volatile market. Margin compression at GreenSky disappointed investors and the stock slid by over 35% after earnings. All other stocks gained post earnings with OnDeck up by nearly 33%.

Enova Earnings

  • Enova’s revenues grew by 35% YoY to $294 Mn and net income was $15 Mn, compared to a loss in Q3 2017.
  • Loans grew by 32% to $1 Bn, and originations grew by 23% YoY to $0.7 Bn driven by 28% YoY growth in the US subprime business. 31% of Enova’s new originations in the first nine months of 2018 came from new customers. This was the highest proportion of originations from new customers since 2004, demonstrating a large untapped market as Enova expands.
  • Loan loss reserves increased by 44% YoY to $0.2 Bn. Enova is seeing charge-off rates increase from near cycle lowsCharge-offs in Q3 were $141 Mn, up by 53% YoY. The company noted that charge-offs on new customers are roughly three times those on recurring customers, and the company evaluates every loan decision based on the lifetime expected value of that customer.
  • Enova had $164 Mn in cash and equivalents and $951 Mn in debt outstanding at the end of Q3. Enova issued $375 Mn of seven-year notes at 8.5%, which were used to retire existing 9.75% notes and added a new two-year $150 Mn secured facility points to grow the near prime installment product. The company also priced its inaugural $125 Mn NetCredit term securitization at a blended fixed cost of 6%.

GreenSky Earnings

  • GreenSky’s revenues grew by 29% YoY to $114 Mn and net income increased by 20% YoY to $46 Mn. It was GreenSky’s second quarter with more than $100 Mn in revenues and $50 Mn in EBITDA.
  • GSKY had record originations this quarter of $1.4 Bn, up by 33% YoY. GreenSky’s portfolio is focused on home-improvement borrowers and the company is looking to expand into elective healthcare and e-commerce financing.
  • 30+ day delinquencies decreased marginally to 1.44%.
  • GreenSky had $294 Mn of cash and cash equivalents and $387 Mn in term loans. Funding commitments from bank partners increased by $3.5 Bn QoQ to $11 Bn. GreenSky’s bank partners are charging higher funding spreads. GreenSky has not been able to completely offset this increase by passing on higher rates to borrowers.

LendingClub Earnings

  • LendingClub delivered another quarter of record revenue of $185 Mn, an increase of 20% YoY. LC’s net loss was $23 Mn, up from $7 Mn YoY.
  • LendingClub announced a partnership with Intuit to offer loans to TurboTax customers by directly accessing their tax records. It’s a smart deal. The partnership enables LendingClub to keep customer acquisition costs low and also use alternative data to underwrite borrowers.
  • Originations grew by 18% YoY to $2.9 Bn, the highest quarterly originations at LC. Net interest income was offset by fair value adjustments on loans of $20 Mn while the structured program generated revenues of $6.3 Mn, the highest to-date.
  • Over the last 12 months LC has continued to tighten credit to reduce portfolio charge-off rates. The table below shows the QoQ change in the return and charge-off estimates across grades. Projected returns for grade A increased by 91 bps QoQ.

  • LendingClub ended the quarter with $514 Mn of cash and equivalents and no unsecured debt. LendingClub held about $459 Mn in loans on the balance sheet, most of which will be used future securitization programs. The CLUB Certificates program has raised more than $1 Bn in capital. LC issued a $270 Mn prime securitization this quarter.

OneMain Earnings

  • OneMain reported revenue growth of 15% YoY to $933 Mn and net income more than doubled YoY to $148 Mn.
  • Originations this quarter were $2.9 Bn, of which 54% were secured, and receivables grew by 10% YoY to $15.8 Bn. OMF generated interest income of $933 Mn, up from $808 Mn YoY. OMF’s receivables portfolio yielded 23.7%, up from 23.4% YoY.
  • 30 to 89-day delinquencies were 2.3% and 90+ delinquencies were 2.0%, near all-time lows. Provisions for loan losses increased by 5% YoY to $0.3 Bn and the total loss reserves increased by 1% to $0.7 Bn. The net charge-off rate dropped to an all-time low of 5.8%.
  • OMF had $1.2 Bn of cash and cash equivalents and revolving conduit facilities of $5.8 Bn at the end of Q3. 50% of the company’s debt is secured. In 3Q, OMF net issued $700 Mn in unsecured notes and $900 Mn in ABS. Moody’s revised One Main’s outlook to positive.

OnDeck Earnings

  • Revenues at OnDeck grew by 23% YoY to $103 Mn, the first time that quarterly revenue exceeded $100 Mn. OnDeck also delivered net income of $10 Mn.
  • OnDeck launched ODX, a Software-as-a-Service company, that will provide underwriting services to banks. ODX has already been working with JP Morgan and also announced a partnership with PNC. OnDeck is investing $15 Mn in strategic growth initiatives, two-thirds of which will be in ODX in 2019.
  • OnDeck’s originations grew by 22% YoY to an all-time high of $0.6 Bn and the loan book grew by 16% to $1.1 Bn. OnDeck has navigated the rise in interest rates well with the Effective Yield on its portfolio rising by 340 bps YoY to 36.5% and the NIM increasing by 400 bps to 33%.
  • OnDeck’s provision for loan losses decreased by 1% YoY to $40 Mn, while the loss reserve increased by 27% YoY to $134 Mn. Net charge-off rate decreased significantly from 16.9% to 11.1% YoY. The 15+ Day Delinquency Ratio dropped to an all-time low of 6.4% from 7.5% YoY.
  • ONDK’s total debt was $771 Mn and cash and cash equivalents were $71 Mn at the end of Q3. OnDeck’s cost of funds dropped by 40 bps YoY to 6%. OnDeck closed an additional $175 Mn in credit facilities.

Online lending: US fintechs gain from behaving more like banks (Financial Times) Rated: AAA

When Noah Breslow rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange in the week before Christmas 2014, it was a high point — perhaps the high point — for the fledgling online lending industry.

OnDeck’s peak-to-trough decline in its share price was 86 per cent; Lending Club’s was 90 per cent. However much the companies protested that slower top-line growth was actually a positive — implying that they were being more selective on lending — investors were unpersuaded.

Mr Breslow is happier with the investor mix now and how results are received. In the second quarter, for example, OnDeck reported a slight fall in loan originations, from $591m to $587m. But investors welcomed a relatively low net charge-off rate — a measure of bad debt — of 11.2 per cent, from 18.6 per cent a year earlier.

Starling Bank keeps you posted with Post Office (Fintech Future) Rated: A

Starling Bank, which is now offering Banking-as-a-Service and payment services white label offerings, has partnered with the Post Office to allow Starling current and business account customers to deposit and withdraw cash through the Post Office’s branches.

In late 2015, investors in one of China’s largest peer-to-peer lending companies, Ezubao, found themselves unable to retrieve their deposits. By September the next year, 26 Ezubao employees had been sentenced for effectively running a Ponzi scheme and failing to repay as much as Rmb38bn ($5.5bn) to investors.

China’s P2P lending industry recorded transactions valued at $445bn in 2017, according to Online Lending Club, a data company.

Even this gentle regulation has started to take a toll on P2P lending platforms. Numbers have thinned from 2,205 platforms at the beginning of this year to 1,590 platforms as of this August, according to Online Lending Platform, a website that tracks P2P data. Since the beginning of this year, the iOS app store and certain Chinese Android app stores have begun culling the number of P2P platforms available for download.

eBay & Square Partner on Business Loans (Crowdfund Insider) Rated: AAA

eBay (Nasdaq:EBAY)  and Square Capital (NYSE:SQ) have signed an agreement to provide up to $100,000 in credit to sellers – in as little as one day. The partnership is not only a streamlined offering of financing for small businesses that use eBay but also a whack at traditional banks which are mostly unable to match such a speedy lending agreement.

Scott Cutler, Senior Vice President, Americas at eBay, says that eBay is committed to helping their sellers and providing credit in partnership with Square simply makes sense.

For example, if you have $30,000 CC debt and good credit you can get a 3-year payoff at about 6% and a 5 year at about 7%. That is a big improvement over a typical rate of 17.5% on purchases and an amazing 23.5% on cash advances. So you take out the $30,000 loan, pay off your credit cards and save thousands in interest while you are at it. In addition, your CC is now zero and you can start using it again.

They came to market via an IPO late in 2014 and were an immediate hit rising over 50% their first day. They were immediately valued at over $9 billion. Today they are at less than $2 billion, a drop of almost 80%.

Americans are splurging on personal loans thanks to fintech startups (Quartz) Rated: AAA

The stock of personal loans outstanding has grown to about $120 billion as of March, according to TransUnion data. That compares with $71.9 billion a decade ago—worth around $90 billion adjusted for inflation—when the subprime mortgage crisis crescendoed. About 17 million Americans have this type of debt which, unlike mortgages and automobile loans, isn’t collateralized by an asset.

Center For The New Middle Class: Non-Prime Consumers Spending More Responsibly On Vacation (Payment Week) Rated: A

Non-prime consumers are significantly less likely to be taking to the road for vacation this summer, opting for staycations instead, and spending far less on vacations if they take one, a new study released today from Elevate’s

Key findings from the CNMC survey conducted in June include:

  • The non-prime are 29% less likely to take a vacation
  • The non-prime are 22% more likely to “staycation”
  • If they do take a vacation, the non-prime spend half as much
  • The non-prime are 2x as likely to have turned down a vacation due to financial constraints
  • The non-prime are 61% more likely to borrow money for a vacation
  • Non-prime spend 18% less per child on summer entertainment
  • Those with children were more likely to take vacations and borrow money to cover costs

The research also indicated that across both credit segments, summer community resource utilization (i.e. pools, parks, libraries, etc.) was relatively high, with more than 85% in both segments using these facilities. Summer entertainment expenses per child were also very similar between the prime and non-prime groups.

PPDai, China’s first online peer-to-peer lending platform listed in the US, said today it would increase its registered capital to 1 billion yuan (US$149 million) and expand its artificial intelligence applications to hedge risks and improve investor confidence amid concerns over P2P lending.

The Shanghai-based company, which has about 71 million users ,employs AI, Big Data and blockchain to fight against risk and fraud.

Alipay and WeBank competition heats up as China reins in leverage (Financial Times) Rated: AAA

Alipay and WeBank are set up perfectly to take advantage of new priorities from Chinese policymakers to increase the flow of capital to small companies and households, their approach is different as WeBank looks to use bank partnerships to make capital connections.

Alipay uses scale, data and technology capabilities to compete with banks for deposits and funds its borrowing through the ABS market.

Alipay and WeBank plan to list their finance arms soon which will continue to put pressure on the rivalry as well as the broader financial market in China.

China’s P2P Online Lending Dominoes Continue to Fall (Ciaxin) Rated: A

Beijing-based iqianbang.com was the latest online P2P lending platform to close down. The company announced a “benign exit” last Friday night, citing “deteriorating online lending environment and drying up liquidity.”

Chinese P2P Lender’s Controller Disappears After Sponsoring Portugal (Yicai Global) Rated: A

Zheng Yansen, the controller of peer-to-peer lender Guangzhou Leader Internet Financial Information Service has disappeared, the firm announced yesterday.

It also acknowledged that ‘some of its projects are delayed’ and said it will set up a work group as soon as possible to inventory its assets and businesses, request borrowers to repay loans earlier than scheduled, and liquidate collateral as quickly as possible.

Rabobank’s novel approach to protecting customer data (American Banker) Rated: A

Take Dutch-based Rabobank, for example, which now converts customer data to the Latin names of flowers and animals in order to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation that sensitive client information be disguised.

At the heart of all these regulations is the mandate that companies must make sure no one can access customer data who shouldn’t, and that every effort is made to protect that data from breaches. Storing customer data in the clear — not encrypted, anonymized, or pseudonymized — is not acceptable, to regulators or anyone else.

MoneyGram and Visa announced today (July 24) that they have partnered to deliver real-time digital disbursements to MoneyGram customers using Visa’s push payments platform, Visa Direct.

Launching in October in two key markets, Mexico and the Philippines, MoneyGram will expand its options in which receivers from those markets may receive and use funds instantly  via their bank-issued Visa-branded debit card or Visa-branded prepaid card  and senders may choose the option by which to send those funds. Realty services group Property Connect Holdings (ASX: PCH) has entered into a minimum five-year licence agreement to use a technology platform powered by marketplace treasury company Clearmatch, in the development and marketing of its own lending products designed to ease property market transactions.

The binding heads of agreement allows Property Connect to use the SocietyOne platform owned by Clearmatch to develop products focused on the emerging project development finance and residential mortgage sectors within the private peer-to-peer lending market.

P2P lending platform Monexo partners with Cube Wealth for new-clientele (Business Standard) Rated: B

Peer-to-Peer (P2P) lender, has partnered with to provide clients with an alternative avenue for investments. The app-based firm’s user-base of 350,000 customers will have an option of placing a portion of their investments onto Monexo’s platform.

The market space is only three years old and until last October operated without any regulatory oversight. While there are 3,000 lenders in China with a total lending book of $500 million, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is said to have approved licenses to around eight firms.
